One of the Most Researched Elephant Herds in the World

Knowledge that shapes understanding

Over the past 15+ years, our elephant herd has contributed to more than 40 scientific studies conducted by leading universities and researchers from around the world.

This makes the elephants at Adventures with Elephants one of the most diversely researched and scientifically documented elephant groups globally.

Research conducted here has helped advance understanding in:

  • Elephant cognition and intelligence
  • Communication and vocalisation
  • Olfactory ability and sensory perception
  • Nutrition and dietary behaviour
  • Physiology and biomechanics
  • Reproduction and lactation
  • Welfare and emotional states
  • Human–elephant relationships
  • Ethical management practices

The trust between our elephants and their carers allows researchers to study behaviour and biology in ways that are rarely possible elsewhere.

This growing body of knowledge contributes directly to improved elephant welfare, conservation strategies and global understanding of this extraordinary species.
